What Blinky sees

To show a light when something arrives, Android tells Blinky that a notification was posted and which app posted it. Blinky reads the package name of that app and nothing else. It does not read titles, message bodies, sender names, images or any other content of a notification.

What Blinky stores

Your settings stay on this device. That covers the colour, shape, placement and effect of the light, which apps you chose, and any colours you gave them. Blinky keeps no history of your notifications. The list of apps currently waiting exists in memory while the light is showing, and is gone when it stops.

What Blinky sends

Nothing. Blinky makes no network requests of its own. It has no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no accounts. Nothing you do in the app reaches us or anyone else, because there is nowhere for it to go.

Purchases

The one-time unlock is sold and processed by Google Play. Google tells Blinky whether this account owns the unlock. It does not tell us who you are, and we never see your payment details. Google’s own privacy policy covers that transaction.

Permissions

Notification access lets Blinky know a notification arrived. Notifications and full-screen notifications let the light open over the lock screen while the phone is asleep. Unrestricted battery is optional and stops Android shutting the listener down. Alarms and reminders is optional and lets the light come back at the moment you set. Turning the screen off is optional: Blinky uses an Android accessibility service for one thing only, to lock the screen after the light has blinked, the same way the power button does, so your fingerprint keeps working. That service reads nothing on your screen and collects, stores and shares no data; Blinky asks for your agreement before you turn it on. On Android 8.1 a device admin does the same job instead. You grant each of these in Android's settings and can withdraw any of them there at any time.

Children

Blinky is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone, of any age.
